Shoot 1 – Re-Edit

There were a couple shoots in this, especially the first one which I felt needed some more time and a re-selection to see if I could find something more from the time that was invested in the shoot.

I can definitely see more coming through from the exploding marbles after taking away the strings and the cardboard lined marbles really brings anew look at the series.  Annoyingly the accidental soft focus really add to these images.  The focus being off brings the background to more of a neutral surfaces by looking the texture and the marbles become softer.  This allows the colour changes to become clearer and apparent against the shape, rather than the small details of each marble, distracting you from the scene as a whole.

We have been looking at the size and space within the Poly where we are going to exhibit and the wall space doesn’t offer enough room for a single line at eye level and we didn’t want to adjust to two rows.
Fortunately, like they have done here, they have additional sections to mount work.  We were hoping to build dividers in the centre but they have prebuilt codes on wheels which we can adjust around the room when we know how many images we are finishing with.

With the string brighter colours of the marbles in the earlier images on lighter backgrounds we have chosen to go with thicker white white mount, with heavier bottom proportion boarder set inside a think black frame so the attention really is on the image itself.

ENVIRONMENTAL INSTILLATION ART EXHIBITIONS
http://asaydavisstudios.com/art-exhibition/

We’re wanting to display some of the installations that we have used to create they images and hopefully surprise the viewers as they’re moving around the exhibition.  Joseph and I have seen the installations and images daily and weekly and somewhat popped the bubble of it all.  To enjoy seeing their reaction to it would bring life back into it for us.
We have been discussing the idea of having them concealed giving people the chance to view if they wanted to or live in the dream if they didn’t.

Instagram Progression

A couple of things that caught me out, my hashtags kept disappearing.  It wasn’t until I researched more I researched that you can only have a maximum of 30, which caused mine to disappear.

This two were uploaded at the same time from each of my accounts to compare how I can get publicity of an image of a celebrity against an abstract piece.  Both shared at the same time to keep it fair.

Instagram

As part of this module, you requested we start an Instagram account.  I already have my own which I use for my music photography, more for distributing images around friends and to artists, more than promoting my work.  Please see attached image of that account featured later.

I have instead started an account to advertise the exhibition we will be using these images in at the Poly Falmouth.

Darryll Jones

Jones uses humour in his Instagram account captions mixed with hashtags bellow that to help share and distribute the work, I have been trying this with the images I have been submitting.  It was interesting to find that copying hashtags isn’t allowed but fortunately I have hacked the developer settings on my MacBook which means I can run it’s Safari as an iPad allowing me to upload directly.  In doing so I can keep a selection of hashtags on my computer and copy them across.

Adam Makarenko

Makarenko uses short captions to identify what we are seeing before or at time going straight to the hashtags.  I have notices some people us symbols or drop lines to hide the hashtags from the original caption screen on phones and iPads.

Selena Gomez

https://www.instagram.com/selenagomez/

Considering she is the highest followed person on Instagram since taking over from Rinaldo, I felt it would be wrong not to research her account.  The main this that helps is her fame outside of Instagram but also she is an acknowledge face on there and an Instagram Recommended person to follow which does appear to make a large difference to an accounts footfall.

Heatmap-Instagram-1

Since starting to use Instagram for this project, I have been watching what happens when I post and how I post.  With my old account, I would add one or two hashtags and a small caption but with these, the caption isn’t so necessary.

I have been focusing my hashtags and looking at the associated posts previews usages and trying to select one which are commonly used but where my selection shouldn’t get swamped under everyone elses.

I have been working on breaking down what is in the image so that people who view have a reason to look at the image and hopefully read deeper into it.  I have then been looking at the genres the work fits in with to ensure I am targeting the right audience.  From here I then focused on what has been used to create it to try and catch the attention of the larger companies associated with my work in some way to try and get backing, support or usage.

With a fresh account, I have also been able to be selective of who I follow, in doing so I have more research prospects and also a selection of targets to direct my work to in the hope of sharing or again usage.

Selection Editting

Originally I had intended to have the book layout designed ready to submit these with that lay out included but working as a collaboration, getting shoots together, edited and laid out, hasn’t happened at the time frame we originally intended.  We had hoped to have the book ready to go to print so we could have copies for the families by Christmas but due to adding more shoots and ideas we have moved that into the new year.

For that reason I will be submitting these as the images they are, as if ready to be exhibited but not published.

I keep coming back to the final image at the bottom of this set, of the spheres blasting off into the darkness from the dust and I look to it thinking is it strong enough.  I feel the content within the image fits with the concept, the movement and motion in the focus adds to the idea of speed and movement in the spheres themselves.  The one thing that keeps drawing me back in the lack of a significant focal point within the image but again, I am feeling this adds to the image rather than subtracting giving an idea of speed and power.  If this was a journalistic, documentary or event piece, this would have gone straight in the bin but here I feel it adds rather than subtracts.
